Mayor Armin Mizani Leads Keller to Adopt 287(g) Partnership with ICE

(Keller, TX) – In a decisive move to increase public safety and uphold the rule of law, the Keller City Council voted Tuesday evening to opt the city into the federal 287(g) program, which formalizes a working partnership between the Keller Regional Detention Center and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The resolution makes Keller the largest city in Texas to formally adopt 287(g), sending a clear message that Keller will not serve as a sanctuary for criminal illegal immigrants. Mayor Armin Mizani has championed partnering with ICE for years, assisting ICE operations informally since 2022.

“In Keller, we’re standing shoulder to shoulder with ICE and President Trump’s America First agenda,” said Mayor Armin Mizani. “Texans deserve to live in safe communities, and that’s why as long as I’m mayor, Keller will do everything in our power to assist in the removal of criminal illegal aliens from our country.”

The 287(g) program allows local law enforcement officers at the Keller jail to receive federal training and authorization to identify and detain criminal illegal immigrants. Over 2,000 individuals are booked annually at Keller’s regional facility, including offenders from neighboring cities.

This initiative aligns with priorities laid out by President Donald Trump and the Republican Party of Texas, and it demonstrates once again Mizani’s unwavering commitment to secure borders, and his support for law enforcement.

“When we said public safety was non-negotiable, we meant it,” said Mayor Mizani.
